The first incarnation of King Crimson was born in November of 1968. Shortly afterward, they purchased a mellotron, and began using it to create their trademark orchestral sound. On January 13, 1969, the group rehearsed for the first time. A mere seven months later, the group played the famous free concert in Hyde Park, London, staged by The Rolling Stones in July 1969 before a crowd in excess of 100,000.
Here's a home movie (put to music) of singer/bassist Greg Lake performing with King Crimson at the Hyde Park concert. >>CLICK<<
Over the years, King Crimson has seen members come and go. The Exception is guitarist Robert Fripp.
